The Collaborators

Merce Cunningham and John Cage have had, historically speaking a relationship, as collaborators worth envying. Their communication was quite simple and sophisticated. Cunningham envisioned movement physically and Cage envisioned it mentally as sound. Together they created the most impressive, artistic compositions. They each had their own voice and direction yet when brought together, a harmony, balance and symmetry calculated to mathematical wizardry visual and spacial design. This was accomplished by each allowing the other artist to roam free in his domain.

This marriage of creative freedom of expression is seldom seen, heard of or existing in most Artistic communities. Most attempt, yet fail as egos claim to fame and credit. To find this marriage is a lucky strike and here in Miami there is but a small tight knit group I have declared as " The Hellektrick Company". This group consists mostly of formulated Dance-Theatre Companies, with perhaps, at the most 2-3 of us also being Conceptual Performance Artists ( Please visit: www.belaxisbuil-performanceart.com).

Circ X is a performance troupe founded by Diana Lozano and Octavio Campos ( Camposition Dance Theatre and Theatre Works). The artistic direction is solely headed by Diana Lozano. However, although under the direction of Lozano's vision, the beauty of this troupe is the welcoming of individual artists (within the troupe) to display, exhibit, and perform their own body of work AS LONG AS IT CONCEPTUALLY EQUATES TO THE LEVEL OF LOZANO'S OWN VISION. Thus my relationship with Lozano and the troupe has enabled me to work collaboratively. The work of Circ X has been receiving attention on a grand scale and also brining notoriety to the individual artist as well. At the present time Circ x is fullfilling a residency at " Dream" Cabaret-Burlesque ( Miami Beach/ Chat Noir) and I am one of the lucky artists exhibiting my Conceptual Performance Art on a weekly basis.

Camposition was founded and is directed by Octavio Campos. Campos' work has received rave reviews as avant-garde dance theatre. Despite much controversy over the genre of Campos' work, the technique and discipline behind the idealogy and performances is on a high intellectual scale. Campos studied at Julliard and moved on to dance and perform with the highly recognized Pina Bausch. Need I say more. Campos' work deals within the realms of social issues with media and technology.  At times Campos' work is choreographed. At times it is open for the individual company  member to improvise, choreograph and exibit their own work.

Working as a dancer and choreographer has allowed me to work with other companies ( Ballet Flamenco La Rosal, Artistic Director Ilisa Rosal who  gave me the oppurtunity to work with Spains Flamenco Legend Manolete, along  showcasing my own solo work),  The Brachard Dance Company, In Motion Dance, JoVila Dance,  Revue Paris Cabaret, SobePac Dance , Neri Torres Ifle-Ifle, Katherine Kramer, Miami Hispanic Ballet among many others. The attention emphasized on Circ X and Camposition are of main importance  as I continue to explore my marriage in collaboration.

 Belaxis Buil during " Creep"

The Miami Light Project approached Diana Lozano for the 2008 works. The performances feature emerging Artists within the community.  With that being said Lozano then approached Herrera and myself to begin this collaborative journey. The conceptual story line dealt with revealing of our perceptions of women issues- eating disorders. In a most disturbing yet comical way we began to literally vomit our tale. Amazing reviews were received by  art/dance critique and commentator Ms. Levine of the Miami Herald. Thank-You

Our trio was intense. Lozano and I suffered the most with this reflection of our eating disorders while Herrera brought balance as an ego-centric, I am near body perfection.

We  were " Sex Dolls' as women are represented today. The Media is our devil and the broadcasters are the puppet showgirls.

The process for this body of work was relentless and hurtful. As a trio of collaborators ( primarily for the choreography and concepts) we spent months, days, hours and minutes rehearsing, writing, researching, soul- searching, crying, tormenting, not eating, dancing, talking and other forgotten mentions, sharing this creation. The actual performances unleashed demons deeply settled and rooted within us. We removed tumors. It was the best plastic surgery ever performed. We await the next one.
